The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has refuted claims suggesting that it has raised the registration fees for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
In a statement issued by its Public Communication Advisor (PCA), Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the Board labeled the allegations as “entirely unfounded,” asserting that the approved fees have remained stable since 2019.
To clarify, JAMB confirmed that the current registration fees are as follows:
– Direct Entry (DE): ₦5,700
– UTME Only (without Mock): ₦7,200
– UTME with Mock: ₦8,700
The Board detailed the breakdown of these charges:
– Application Fee: ₦3,500
– Reading Text: ₦1,000
– CBT Centre Registration Service Charge: ₦700
– CBT Centre UTME Service Charge: ₦1,500
– Bank Charges: ₦500
– CBT Mock-UTME Centre Charge: ₦1,500
JAMB reminded the public that in 2018, the Federal Executive Council approved a reduction in the UTME application fee from ₦5,000 to ₦3,500, effective from the 2019 registration exercise.
“Since this government-sanctioned reduction, the Board has maintained its fee structure, despite increasing operational costs.”
The Board urged prospective candidates, as well as parents and guardians, to disregard any misleading publications and rely exclusively on official information disseminated through its verified platforms and advertisements.
JAMB also advised candidates to thoroughly examine its official registration advertisement to prevent being misled or victimized by unscrupulous individuals or centers.
Furthermore, the Board called on any candidate who may have paid more than the officially approved fees to promptly report such instances, along with credible evidence.
This will assist JAMB in investigating and taking swift disciplinary action against any centers found guilty of overcharging or engaging in fraudulent practices.
Reaffirming its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the safeguarding of candidates’ interests, JAMB encourages adherence to official communications.
