Fulham star Alex Iwobi has marked a major career milestone after recording his 300th appearance in the Premier League. The midfielder hit the landmark during Fulham’s 2-1 loss to Newcastle United on Saturday.
With this achievement, the 29-year-old becomes the first Nigerian footballer in history to reach 300 Premier League matches. Iwobi also climbs the African all-time appearance chart, now ranking fifth among the continent’s most capped players in the English top flight. Only Kolo Touré (353), Mohamed Salah (309), Wilfried Zaha (309), and Jordan Ayew (305) have played more games.
Reflecting on the milestone, Iwobi described the moment as a significant honour.
“It’s amazing,” he said. “It’s a big achievement to lead that, with the likes of Shola Ameobi and even my uncle [Jay-Jay Okocha] that’s participated in the Premier League,” he was quoted by Fulham’s official website as saying.
“It’s an honour, but I’m not done yet. I’m going to keep on going and hopefully keep the record going.”
