Alex Iwobi has become the joint-highest Nigerian appearance maker in Premier League history after featuring in Fulham’s clash with Bournemouth on Friday night.
The 28-year-old midfielder made his 298th top-flight appearance at the Vitality Stadium, equalling the record held by former Newcastle striker Shola Ameobi.
Iwobi’s milestone comes just days after Fulham marked Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day with a celebration at their Motspur Park training ground, where players wore green jerseys and enjoyed Nigerian music and decorations.
The Super Eagles star began his Premier League career at Arsenal, before moving to Everton and later joining Fulham, where he has developed into a versatile midfielder under Marco Silva.
With Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho no longer in the league, Iwobi remains the only active Nigerian chasing the all-time appearance record.
