As the world marks International Women’s Day 2026, wife of Nigeria’s president, Oluremi Tinubu, has called for increased empowerment of women and girls, stressing that their advancement is key to national development.
In a statement shared on Sunday to commemorate the global event, Tinubu praised the resilience, courage and contributions of women in Nigeria and around the world.
She noted that the theme for this year’s celebration, “Rights. Justice. Action. For All Women and Girls”, highlights the urgent need to promote equality and ensure women have access to opportunities that enable them to thrive.
According to the Tinubu, empowering women should not be seen as charity but as a deliberate investment in national growth and social progress.
She explained that when women are given access to education, healthcare, economic opportunities and leadership roles, the benefits extend to families, communities and the nation as a whole.
Tinubu therefore encouraged Nigerians to continue supporting initiatives that promote the rights and wellbeing of women and girls across the country.
Also lending her voice to the celebration, the wife of Ondo State governor, Seun Aiyedatiwa, called on women to continue supporting one another and contributing positively to the development of society.
In a message shared on her Facebook page, Aiyedatiwa highlighted the theme “Give to Gain”, stressing the importance of mentorship, collaboration and acts of kindness among women.
She commended women in Ondo State for their resilience and their contributions to different sectors, including business, agriculture, education and public service.
Aiyedatiwa further encouraged women to continue mentoring younger generations and working together to build stronger communities and a more inclusive society.
