The Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) has issued a chilling warning to residents of Adamawa State, particularly in Christian-majority communities, demanding they either convert to Islam or face death.
The threat follows the group’s claim of responsibility for attacks on a Christian village and churches in which over 14 people were killed on December 31, 2025.
Homes and businesses were vandalized or set ablaze in the villages of Zah, Mubang Yadul, and Kijing, all located in Hong Local Government Area of the state.
American security expert and insurgency tracker Brant Philip shared the development in a post on X on Friday, along with a viral video showing terrorists burning the community. He said the warning was issued shortly after the attacks.
“ISWAP released an image of one of the Christian villages in Adamawa State burning, alongside a statement saying that all Christians in Nigeria are legitimate targets and they have an opportunity to ‘spare their blood’ by converting to Islam or paying the jizyah tax to ISWAP”, Philip wrote.
Security analysts suggest the attacks may be retaliation for recent US military airstrikes targeting a terrorist enclave in Sokoto State, highlighting the ongoing challenges of insurgency in the region.
