The Israeli military announced on Friday that an estimated 480,000 Palestinians have fled Gaza City southwards since late August, as Israeli forces intensify their ground offensive aimed at seizing control of the enclave’s largest urban centre.
Responding to a request for updated figures, the military told AFP: “The estimate is approximately 480,000.”
The United Nations had previously estimated that around one million people were living in Gaza City and its surrounding areas at the end of August, underscoring the scale of displacement in just a matter of weeks.
