
In a major show of multilateral commitment to global development, the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) has approved a total of US$1.27 billion in financing for 12 member countries during its 362nd Board of Executive Directors meeting, held on September 29, 2025.
Chaired by IsDB President, H.E. Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser, the board sanctioned a wide array of projects spanning Asia, Africa, and the MENA region, focused on boosting infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare, education, renewable energy, and digital transformation.
“These approvals demonstrate the Bank’s commitment to delivering tangible development impact by supporting inclusive growth, cleaner energy, resilient infrastructure, better health and education outcomes, stronger governance, and sustainable livelihoods,” Dr. Al Jasser said.
Country-by-Country Breakdown of Key Approvals:
🇳🇬 Nigeria
- US$50 million to boost agricultural resilience in Yobe State
- Focus: Market-oriented, climate-resilient value chains to improve rural incomes
🇵🇰 Pakistan
- US$475 million for the M-6 Motorway Project
- Purpose: Enhance national transport infrastructure, connectivity, and logistics
🇧🇩 Bangladesh
- US$143.28 million for Sonagazi 220 MW Solar Power & Livelihoods Project
- Aims to expand renewable energy capacity and drive economic activity
🇹🇷 Türkiye
- EUR140 million for Antalya–Alanya Motorway
- Goals: Alleviate congestion, boost road safety, and reduce emissions
🇺🇿 Uzbekistan
- US$192 million to upgrade the 4R40 road
- Expected to unlock tourism and economic investment in Jizzakh Region
🇺🇬 Uganda
- US$36.8 million to establish regional oncology centres
- EUR73.33 million for Local Economic Growth Support Phase II
🇸🇳 Senegal
- EUR36.51 million for a national school meals programme
- Designed to improve nutrition, local agriculture, and education outcomes
🇬🇳 Republic of Guinea
- EUR32 million to complete the Boké–Québo road
- Target: Improve rural connectivity and agricultural trade
🇹🇳 Tunisia
- EUR30 million to bolster national water infrastructure
- Includes upgrades to dams and irrigation systems
🇸🇱 Sierra Leone
- US$30.55 million to develop the cassava value chain
- Focus on empowering women, youth, and persons with disabilities
🇰🇲 Comoros
- EUR6.3 million to support e-government transformation
- Investments in ICT infrastructure and digital skills training
🇲🇷 Mauritania
- US$1.77 million for public procurement reform
- Supports transparency and institutional capacity building
Multi-Country Initiative: Tadamon 2.0
IsDB also approved US$7 million for Tadamon 2.0, a multi-country community empowerment initiative that promotes: Digital literacy, Healthcare access, Islamic finance inclusion and Capacity-building for civil society.
The wide-ranging approvals signal IsDB’s strategic approach to: Reduce poverty, Accelerate green energy transition, Improve healthcare delivery, Strengthen food security and Foster inclusive economic growth.
The projects are in line with the Bank’s commitment to supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and improving the quality of life across member states.
