Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have attacked and killed an Islamic cleric, one Alh. Muhammad Bakoshi, in Zalau village in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The armed bandits whose number could not be ascertained, reportedly attacked the Islamic Cleric who was the Discipline Officer of the Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS), Zalau, in his house in the late hours of Saturday, 22nd November, 2025.
According to sources, during the attack, Bakoshi was killed, while his wife—who gave birth just two weeks ago and daughter were abducted and are still with the kidnappers as of the time of the report.
A resident of the village told journalists that the development has thrown the community into fear and grief as they have been exposed to insecurity and bandits’ attack.
He revealed that the community is currently praying for their safe return and strength for the family in the difficult time.
“Bandits and kidnappers in Nigeria do not target only Christians. These criminals go after anyone they see as vulnerable, regardless of religion. Let’s focus on safety and unity, and we should not divide ourselves by faith,” he said.
The Bauchi State Police Command has not officially reacted to the development as of the time of this story.
