Veteran Nollywood actress Ireti Doyle has opened up about her decision to keep details of her divorce from Patrick Doyle away from the public eye.
Speaking during an interview with media personality Morayo Afolabi Brown, Doyle stressed that the circumstances surrounding the end of her marriage were private and not meant for public discussion.
She maintained that the only people who might deserve any explanation are close family members and friends who were present at the beginning of the union. According to her, the wider public has no stake in such deeply personal matters.
Doyle also criticised the growing trend of individuals taking relationship issues to social media. She argued that public opinion offers little value in resolving personal conflicts and often worsens the situation.
Highlighting the emotional toll of ending a long-term relationship, the actress said separation can be painful regardless of the circumstances. She advised individuals going through similar experiences to focus on self-reflection and healing rather than seeking validation online.
Doyle emphasised that energy should be directed toward understanding what went wrong in order to avoid repeating past mistakes, rather than performing for an audience she believes is largely indifferent.
The actress confirmed in January 2023 that her marriage to Patrick Doyle, which lasted nearly two decades, had officially ended. Although the couple had reportedly separated years earlier, the divorce was finalised in 2023.
