The Ambassador of Israel to Nigeria, Michael Freeman, has alleged that the government of Iran supports certain movements in Nigeria as part of what he described as a wider effort to promote instability internationally.
Speaking in a televised interview, Freeman claimed that some groups operating in Nigeria receive backing from Tehran. He also referenced regional organisations such as Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis, accusing Iran of supporting them.
The envoy said Israel considers threats directed at it to be part of long-standing hostilities from Iran and argued that any nation facing security risks has the right to defend itself. He maintained that Israel remains prepared to cooperate with international partners, including Nigeria, on security matters.
Freeman’s remarks come amid heightened regional tensions following recent military exchanges in the Middle East.
In response, Mahdavi Raja, representing Iran in Nigeria, defended Tehran’s actions in the region, stating that its military responses were within its sovereign rights.
The matter continues to draw international attention as discussions intensify across the global community.
