Iran has executed a man convicted of espionage for Israel, according to the country’s judiciary, marking the first publicly announced execution on such charges since the recent escalation of conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the judiciary’s official news platform, Mizan Online, said the death sentence was carried out against a man identified as Kouroush Keyvani, who had been found guilty of working with Israel’s intelligence agency, Mossad.
According to Iranian authorities, Keyvani was accused of supplying Mossad operatives with images and sensitive intelligence related to strategic locations inside Iran.
“The death sentence of a spy for the Zionist regime, who had been providing images and information about the country’s sensitive sites to Mossad officers, was carried out this morning,” the judiciary said.
Iranian officials stated that Keyvani was arrested during the 12-day conflict with Israel in June, a period of heightened military confrontation that also saw limited US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
Judicial authorities further alleged that he held multiple meetings with Israeli intelligence agents and underwent espionage training in six European countries as well as in Tel Aviv.
The execution comes at a time of sharply rising tensions across the Middle East, following a fresh wave of military confrontation involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.
Iran has increasingly intensified internal security measures in response to what it describes as expanding foreign intelligence operations targeting its military and strategic infrastructure.
The case is likely to deepen already strained relations in a region facing continued instability and widening conflict.
