In response to claims by Israel’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Freeman, that Iran is sponsoring terrorism and supporting extremist groups in Nigeria and across the region, the Iranian mission in Abuja has dismissed the allegations as unfounded and politically motivated.
The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Nigeria said the accusations lack credible evidence and form part of what it described as a propaganda campaign.
The mission stated that the remarks were intended to misrepresent Iran’s international role and divert attention from broader geopolitical issues. It maintained that counter-terrorism efforts should be grounded in cooperation, dialogue, and respect for international law rather than unsubstantiated claims.
Iran also reiterated that it has been a victim of terrorism for decades and emphasized its commitment to peaceful engagement with Nigeria.
The embassy reaffirmed that relations between both countries remain friendly and cooperative, covering areas such as trade, education, culture, science and technology.
