Iran has strongly condemned what it described as an American military attack on Venezuela, following accusations by Caracas that the United States was behind recent explosions in the Venezuelan capital.
In a statement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said it “strongly condemns the American military attack on Venezuela and the flagrant violation of the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.”
Washington has yet to issue an official response regarding the blasts.
The condemnation comes after US President Donald Trump claimed on Saturday that American forces had captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro following a “large-scale strike” on the South American nation.
“The United States of America has successfully carried out a large-scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolás Maduro, who has been, along with his wife, captured and flown out of the country,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, adding that the operation was conducted in conjunction with U.S. law enforcement agencies.
