Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has congratulated women in Anambra State and across Nigeria as the world marks the 2026 International Women’s Day.
In a goodwill message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, the governor praised the resilience, creativity, and invaluable contributions of women—particularly mothers, wives, and daughters—to the development of Anambra State and the nation at large.
Soludo noted that the global theme for this year’s celebration, “Give to Gain,” which coincides with the 115th anniversary of International Women’s Day, presents a powerful call for societies to invest more deliberately in women.
According to the governor, the theme challenges long-standing perceptions that frame support for women as mere charity, instead positioning it as a strategic investment that yields broad societal benefits.
“It challenges the age-old narrative of charity and dependency by reframing support for women as a strategic investment in collective prosperity,” he said.
“When society provides women with equal opportunities, access to resources, and a seat at the decision-making table, we do not merely empower individuals—we unlock a multiplier effect that drives economic growth, strengthens social stability, and promotes sustainable development.”
Soludo emphasized that in Anambra State, the empowerment of women benefits not only individuals but also families, communities, and the entire state.
“In Anambra, a woman’s gain is the family’s gain, the community’s gain, and ultimately the state’s gain,” he added.
The governor further stated that his administration has moved beyond rhetoric by implementing policies and programmes that position women not just as beneficiaries of development but as active drivers of progress.
He highlighted initiatives such as the One Youth, Two Skills empowerment programme, financial inclusion schemes and MSME support initiatives, free and quality public education for the girl-child, and the inclusion of women in key political and leadership positions.
Soludo reaffirmed his government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment where women can thrive and realize their full potential.
He concluded by celebrating the women of Anambra State and assuring them that his administration remains dedicated to building a livable and prosperous homeland where every woman can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with her male counterparts, secure in her dignity and limitless in her potential.
International Women’s Day, observed annually on March 8, celebrates the achievements of women and highlights the ongoing global movement for gender equality and women’s rights.
