President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has extended warm congratulations to women across the world, particularly Nigerian women, in celebration of this year’s International Women’s Day (IWD).
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, the Senate President praised Nigerian women for their resilience, dedication, and the vital roles they play in strengthening families and shaping society.
Akpabio acknowledged the sacrifices women make daily and described mothers as one of humanity’s greatest blessings, noting that their love and commitment form the foundation of strong families and communities.
“Today, I join the global community in celebrating our mothers, wives, sisters, daughters, colleagues, and friends who rise each day with determination to make the world a better place. Your relentless efforts and sacrifices do not go unnoticed,” he said.
Reflecting on his personal journey, the Senate President said he considers himself a major beneficiary of the unwavering support and nurturing of women, particularly his mother.
“I remain the greatest beneficiary of the love, care, compassion, and sacrifice of a woman. My mother gave her all to raise me and guide me to become what I am today,” he said.
Akpabio also expressed deep appreciation for the pivotal role women play in raising children, supporting families, and contributing to nation-building.
“I congratulate the Nigerian woman on the occasion of this year’s International Women’s Day. I admire and celebrate your strength, resilience, and invaluable contributions to our nation,” he added.
The Senate President further reaffirmed the commitment of the National Assembly to advancing policies that empower women and expand their opportunities, particularly in economic and political participation.
“As a legislature, and in line with the theme of this year’s celebration, ‘Give and Gain,’ we remain committed to promoting stronger investments in women across all spheres of life,” he stated.
Akpabio concluded by extending best wishes to women everywhere on behalf of his family, constituents, the Senate, and the 10th National Assembly.
“On behalf of my family, constituents, the Senate, and the 10th National Assembly, I celebrate all women and wish our mothers, sisters, daughters, and aunties a joyful and peaceful International Women’s Day. May your sacrifices and contributions continue to yield lasting rewards,” he said.
International Women’s Day, observed annually on March 8, celebrates women’s achievements and highlights the ongoing global struggle for gender equality and the advancement of women’s rights.
