On International Women’s Day 2026, mothers who devote themselves to the care of sick relatives in hospitals were celebrated for their commitment, compassion, and resilience.
Speaking at Kuje General Hospital, the Mandate Secretary for the FCTA Health Services and Environment Secretariat (HSES), Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, visited patients and their caregivers to acknowledge the vital role women play in supporting loved ones through illness.

“This visit is to honor women who leave the safety and comfort of their homes to stand by loved ones in hospital wards.
“These women provide more than care; they bring comfort, reassurance, and hope during challenging times. Today, as we mark the theme ‘Giving to Gain,’ we honour their selfless dedication and the strength they show every day”, Fasawe said.
She highlighted the sacrifices mothers often make, from sleepless nights to skipped meals, prioritizing the needs of patients above their own.

“Though they are not healthcare professionals, their attention, encouragement, and presence contribute significantly to recovery. A mother’s care often does what medicine alone cannot, offering hope, stability, and emotional support when it is needed most”, Fasawe added.

She concluded, “To every mother who has stayed by a hospital bed, offering love and strength, your contribution is invaluable. Your dedication truly makes a difference”.
International Women’s Day, observed annually on March 8, celebrates women worldwide while promoting gender equality and empowerment.
