Amid heightened security concerns across the country, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South-West has urged political leaders, security agencies, and citizens to unite in combating rising incidents of kidnappings, killings, and organised criminal attacks. The party also warned that ongoing violence may be fuelled by internal and external actors determined to destabilise Nigeria.
Recent weeks have seen intensified anxiety nationwide following coordinated abductions of schoolgirls in Kebbi and Niger States, alongside an attack on a church in Kwara where worshippers were killed and several residents abducted. Authorities later confirmed that all victims had been rescued and are currently receiving medical and psychological care.
In a statement released Thursday by the party’s Zonal Publicity Secretary, Ayobami Afolabi, the South-West APC commended the Federal Government and affected state governments for the rapid intervention that led to the safe recovery of the kidnapped victims.
Afolabi noted that the pattern of recent attacks suggests organised coordination, adding that many analysts believe terrorism and banditry in Nigeria are being supported by individuals with political or economic motives.
“We cannot ignore the fact that these incidents appear deliberately orchestrated. No ambition is worth the blood of innocent Nigerians. Security must become a collective duty, from government at the top to residents at community level”, the statement said.
The party called on state governors to empower local security networks to work alongside federal agencies, while imploring citizens to support security operations by sharing intelligence.
Afolabi further expressed confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s security reform agenda, including the recent national security emergency declaration and plans for large-scale recruitment into the Army and Police.
