Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has directed the immediate recruitment of new personnel into the Amotekun Corps as part of efforts to strengthen community security across the state.
The governor gave the directive on Thursday during a high-level security briefing in Akure, where he highlighted the need for increased manpower to tackle rising cases of kidnapping, robbery and rural bandit attacks.
Aiyedatiwa said boosting the operational capacity of Amotekun remains a priority for his administration, noting that the corps has become a frontline defender in local intelligence gathering, forest surveillance and crime response. He also pledged increased logistical support, improved welfare and better equipment for operatives.
Security chiefs who attended the briefing expressed confidence that the new recruitment drive would enhance rapid response capabilities, particularly in border communities and farmlands where criminals often operate.
The move comes amid broader state and regional efforts to bolster grassroots policing under the Western Nigeria Security Network.
