The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that eight out of the 14 pre-qualified associations seeking registration as political parties have successfully completed the upload of all required documents and information.
Last month, INEC revealed that only 14 of the 171 associations that applied for registration met the initial criteria to advance to the next stage, while 157 failed to qualify.
The eight associations that have progressed are:
All Democratic Alliance (ADA)
Citizens Democratic Alliance (CDA)
Abundance Social Party (ASP)
African Alliance Party (AAP)
Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA)
Green Future Party (GFP)
National Democratic Party (NDP)
Peoples Freedom Party (PFP)
In a statement on Thursday, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, said the next stage of the process will involve “a detailed assessment and verification of the information and documents submitted by each association.”
He noted that the review aims to ensure strict compliance with the 1999 Constitution, the Electoral Act 2022, and INEC’s 2022 Guidelines for the Registration of Political Parties.
“As of Saturday, 19 October 2025, eight out of the fourteen pre-qualified associations have successfully completed the upload of all necessary information and documentation,” Olumekun confirmed, adding that INEC remains committed to “inclusivity, transparency, and the deepening of Nigeria’s democratic culture.”
The development comes as political activities begin to intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Notably, the All Democratic Alliance (ADA) has previously been mentioned as a possible platform for opposition figures before the African Democratic Congress (ADC) was eventually adopted.
