With just days to the November 8, 2025, Anambra Governorship Election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says preparations are almost complete, assuring voters of a smooth, credible, and transparent process across the state.
A delegation from the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja, led by the National Commissioner for Election Planning and Monitoring, Prof. Rhoda Gumus, wrapped up a weeklong assessment tour of Anambra, inspecting facilities, reviewing logistics, and meeting key stakeholders.
Other members of the delegation included National Commissioners Sam Olumekun, Kenneth Ukeagu, and Baba Bila.
In a bulletin issued Monday, INEC said the team arrived Awka on October 21, 2025, and immediately began engagements with the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Queen Elizabeth Agwu, and the State Management Team.
Gumus said the visit was to verify that all operational, security, and logistical measures were in place. The team also toured several local government areas, including Dunukofia and Oyi, where the deployment of non-sensitive materials was underway.
She assured voters that the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) was progressing smoothly, saying, “This process is designed to be inclusive, no voter will be left behind”.
At a meeting with the 21 Electoral Officers (EOs), discussions focused on logistics, activation of Registration Area Centres (RACs), and timely deployment of materials. Ukeagu expressed confidence in the Commission’s preparedness, declaring that INEC was “99 percent ready” for the election.
“Every component, logistics, security, voter sensitization, and material tracking is in place. Only the final deployment of staff and materials remains,” he said, emphasizing that “every vehicle, every ballot, every form must be properly tracked.”
The Chairman of the Electoral Operations and Logistics Committee, Baba Bila, urged officers to uphold integrity and professionalism, reminding them that the Commission had entrusted them with great responsibility and expected them to discharge their duties with honesty and diligence.
