Here’s when Flotilla detainees are set to arrive back in SA, and who’s footing the bill
The Department of International Relations and Cooperation (Dirco) has confirmed the safe arrival of the protestors detained off the shore of the Gaza Strip last week.
Roughly 460 members of the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) were detained last week when their small boats meant to be carrying humanitarian relief were intercepted by Israeli forces.
The flotilla was attempting to breach a naval blockade off the Gazan shore.

Paliament accused of ‘disorder’ as first day of Mkhwanazi ad hoc committee lost to argument over statements
Members of parliament’s ad hoc committee looking into the corruption claims made by KwaZulu-Natal’s top cop stalled proceedings on the first day over questions of independence.
Parliamentarians and the committee’s chief evidence leader debated for an hour over whether statements given to the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry were fit for the ad hoc committee.
A long adjournment was followed by the committee members meeting in private to deliberate on the way forward.

ANC’s Ramokgopa hit by claims linking her to Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala
ANC treasurer-general Gwen Ramokgopa has become the target of what appears to be a smear campaign, with her name being dragged into the scandal surrounding controversial businessman and alleged underworld figure Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.
The scandal is currently under scrutiny by the judicial commission of inquiry into criminality, political interference and corruption in the criminal justice system, chaired by retired Constitutional Court justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga.
According to messages circulated on social media and shared with several newspapers, including The Citizen, as well as online platforms, the “missing link” in the saga is the alleged connection between Matlala and “the ANC’s presidential hopeful Gwen Ramokgopa”.

Minister steps in to resolve pay delays for education assistants
Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube has intervened to resolve the delayed stipend payments affecting thousands of education assistants employed under the Basic Education Employment Initiative (BEEI).
Gwarube on Monday said she was “deeply concerned” about the delays that have left many young assistants without income, stressing that the matter was a top priority.
To tackle the problem, Gwarube and Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour Jomo Sibiya have convened a high-level meeting with all key role-players, including the departments of basic education and of employment and labour and the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC).

Watt a salary spike: Eskom CEO takes home R11.7 million
After eight years of losses, Eskom has finally powered back to profit under CEO Dan Marokane, generating a profit worth billions despite being owed millions by municipalities and businesses.
It is no surprise that Marokane walked away with more than R11 million for the entity’s performance.
Eskom released its financial results for the year ended March 2025 in late September, showing that it recorded a pretax profit of R23.9 billion, which is a significant turnaround from the R25.5 billion loss in 2024.
