Former Super Eagles forward Victor Ikpeba has urged the Nigerian national team to take full advantage of their playoff opportunity to secure a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ikpeba’s comments followed Nigeria’s commanding 4–0 victory over Benin Republic, a result that, despite its dominance, fell short of guaranteeing automatic qualification. The Super Eagles finished second in Group C behind South Africa, setting up a playoff semi-final clash against Gabon in Morocco next month.
The winner of that encounter will advance to face either Cameroon or the Democratic Republic of Congo in the final playoff stage for a ticket to the tournament.
Speaking during an interview, Ikpeba emphasized the importance of focus and determination in the coming games.
“We can qualify for the World Cup — it’s another chance for them to play at the biggest stage,” he said.
“They have a second lifeline, and they have to grab it.”
Nigeria last missed the FIFA World Cup in 2022, and fans across the country are hopeful that the team will make a strong comeback to the global stage in 2026.
