DisCo warns of possible bill disruption and service suspension over non-compliance with Nigeria Tax Act 2025….
The Ikeja Electric Distribution Company has directed its customers to submit valid identification details on or before February 20 to ensure uninterrupted electricity billing, in compliance with provisions of the Nigeria Tax Act 2025.
In a public notice issued on Wednesday, the distribution company warned that customers who fail to provide the required information may be unable to receive their electricity bills, a situation that could ultimately result in service suspension after the deadline.
According to the company, the Nigeria Tax Act 2025, which took effect on January 1, 2026, requires that all invoices, including electricity bills, must contain at least one form of customer identification.
Ikeja Electric stated that acceptable identification details include a Tax Identification Number, Corporate Affairs Commission registration number, or National Identification Number.
The company urged customers to comply promptly by submitting any of the required details to enable the information to be reflected in their January 2026 and subsequent electricity bills.
It further explained that under the provisions of the Act, any invoice issued without the required identification information is considered invalid, making it impossible for the company to generate electricity bills for non-compliant customers.
The distribution company cautioned that failure to meet the February 20 deadline could lead to disruption in billing and possible suspension of electricity service.
Ikeja Electric expressed appreciation for customers’ cooperation and urged prompt compliance with the directive.
