Nollywood actor IK Ogbonna has publicly voiced his support for actress Ini Edo, following criticism from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) over the title of her latest film, A Very Dirty Christmas.
In an Instagram statement, Ogbonna expressed disappointment with CAN, questioning why the organisation had remained silent while the movie was promoted for months, only raising concerns after the film began showing nationwide. He highlighted that the movie title had already been approved by the National Film and Video Censors Board, and the project moved forward in good faith.
“Now that the film is out, showing nationwide and doing well, suddenly there’s an issue with the title. How Christian is it to stay silent all along, then speak only when progress has been made?” Ogbonna wrote.
The actor emphasised that his concern was not about creating conflict but about fairness, consistency, and integrity. He urged stakeholders to apply standards evenly and not react selectively once a film achieves success.
Ogbonna’s statement follows growing support from fellow Nollywood actors defending Ini Edo, as the film continues to attract audiences despite the controversy. The debate has reignited discussions about artistic freedom, censorship, and the role of religious groups in film regulation in Nigeria.
