Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho is enjoying a bright start to life at Celtic, quickly winning over fans with his sharp goal-scoring instincts less than a month after joining the Scottish Premier League champions as a free agent.
The 28-year-old, who endured a difficult spell at Sevilla before terminating his contract, has already registered two goals and one assist in three games for the Hoops.
In his first Europa League appearance on Wednesday against Red Star Belgrade, Iheanacho came off the bench and needed just 10 minutes to make an impact, receiving a pass from Benjamin Nygren and curling a shot into the top corner. Red Star later equalized through Marco Arnautović to end the match 1-1.
Speaking to the club’s media, Iheanacho expressed delight at his quick connection with the supporters.
“I love my connection with the supporters wherever I go. So, I’m happy I’m getting that connection with them. Hopefully, it will help us, help the team, and help me move forward.”
With Celtic joint-top of the SPL with 13 points after five matches, the Nigerian striker is already looking ahead to their next European test against Braga next Thursday.
“We need to be more aggressive in European competitions because they are very tough. We know our qualities and what we can do, so I believe we’ll be better and get the points we need.”
