Nigerian actress Idia Aisien has shared details of painful experiences from past relationships, revealing that she once financially supported several men she dated, only to later face betrayal.
The actress made the revelation during a conversation with media personality Toke Makinwa, where she reflected on how her past approach to relationships often involved helping partners financially.
According to Aisien, she believed supporting a partner during difficult times could strengthen the relationship and eventually benefit both people.
She said she sometimes gave significant sums of money to men who claimed they were struggling with business challenges.
“I used to give men money. They would say their business was not doing well and I would give them a couple of million,” she explained.
Aisien noted that at the time, her intention was to support partners she saw a future with, believing that helping them grow financially could also secure stability for the relationship.
However, one particular incident changed her perspective.
The actress recounted giving money to a man she was dating to support his business, only to later discover that the funds were allegedly used for a luxury trip with another woman.
According to her, she initially became suspicious when the man became difficult to reach and claimed his phone was faulty.
Aisien said she later learned from her brother that the man had travelled with another woman.
“My brother told me my boyfriend was somewhere with a girl. I didn’t believe it at first,” she said.
She added that her brother eventually sent her a photo, confirming that the man had travelled abroad with the woman, despite earlier claims that he was still in Lagos.
When confronted, the man reportedly claimed he had been persuaded by friends to travel.
Aisien said the situation left her shocked, especially because the money had been given to support what she believed was a business venture.
During the conversation, Toke Makinwa challenged the actress’s previous approach, arguing that women should not financially support men they are not married to.
Makinwa stressed that a partner’s financial struggles should not become the responsibility of someone who is not yet legally committed in marriage.
The discussion sparked broader reflections on relationships, financial boundaries, and the importance of self-protection when supporting partners.
