In commemoration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, the Minority caucus in the House of Representatives has renewed its commitment to ensuring that Nigeria’s military is fully equipped and supported to protect lives and property across the country.
Minority Leader Rep. Kingsley Chinda (PDP-Rivers) led tributes to both fallen and serving soldiers, highlighting their courage, sacrifice, and dedication to defending the nation under challenging circumstances. He noted that the day offers all Nigerians an opportunity to reflect on the vital role of the armed forces in maintaining peace and security.
“As we honor the bravery of our soldiers, we also recognize the pressing need to provide them with adequate equipment, modern weapons, and logistical support to effectively confront growing security threats”, Chinda said. “The welfare of our troops must remain a national priority if we are to ensure the safety of citizens and the stability of our economy.”
The Minority caucus also stressed the importance of holistic support for the military, including health care, housing, and improved welfare schemes for officers and men. Chinda further called on the federal government to strengthen collaboration between the armed forces and other security agencies to create a more coordinated response to insurgency, banditry, and other criminal activities.
“In commemoration of this day, we urge all Nigerians to reflect on the sacrifices made by our servicemen and women. Let us honor them not only in words but through policies and actions that strengthen their ability to secure our nation”, he added.
The caucus reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing legislative initiatives that enhance military preparedness, ensure accountability in defense spending, and provide the resources necessary for the armed forces to operate efficiently.
