Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund has expressed frustration at the club’s decision to bring in Benjamin Sesko, a move that ultimately pushed him out on loan to Napoli.
According to The Athletic (via Metro), the 22-year-old Dane feels he is the superior striker and wanted to use this season to prove that his £72 million transfer from Atalanta in 2023 was not a mistake.
Hojlund managed 26 goals and six assists in 95 appearances for United but struggled to consistently meet expectations after his high-profile arrival. He believes he was not afforded enough time to develop at Old Trafford.
This summer, United’s hierarchy opted to strengthen their frontline by signing Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Slovenian striker Sesko, who joined from RB Leipzig in a deal worth £66.3 million plus £7.4 million in add-ons.
Sesko was identified as a direct replacement for Hojlund, who was subsequently left out of several matchday squads before sealing a loan switch to Napoli.
The report claims Hojlund has been left “heartbroken” by the decision and “considers himself better” than Sesko, who is yet to score in four appearances for the Red Devils.
