Rasmus Hojlund struck a decisive late goal as Napoli came from behind to beat Genoa 2-1 on Sunday and move top of Serie A.
The 22-year-old Denmark striker, who scored twice against Sporting Lisbon in midweek, pounced on a rebound in the 75th minute after Andre-Frank Anguissa’s shot was parried by goalkeeper Nicola Leali. The goal was his fourth since joining Napoli from Manchester United in the summer.
“It’s my job and the team’s job to win as many games as possible… I just need to keep working hard, recovering and focussing on the next match,” Hojlund told DAZN.
Coach Antonio Conte admitted he was considering substituting Hojlund before the winner, but the forward insisted he had “good energy” to continue.
Napoli had trailed at the break to teenager Jeff Ekhator’s strike, but Anguissa bundled in the equaliser early in the second half before Hojlund sealed the points.
The victory leaves Napoli level on 15 points with Roma, who beat Fiorentina 2-1 earlier on Sunday, but top of the table on goal difference.
Roma overturned Moise Kean’s opener with goals from Matias Soule and Bryan Cristante before holding on despite Fiorentina twice hitting the woodwork.
Napoli will stay top unless AC Milan beat Juventus in Turin later on Sunday in what promises to be another test of Massimiliano Allegri’s title credentials.
