Nigerian celebrity chef Hilda Baci has been officially recognised with her second Guinness World Record, this time for cooking the world’s largest pot of jollof rice.
Guinness World Records confirmed that Baci prepared 8,780kg (19,356 pounds) of jollof rice during a Lagos cookout in September, setting a new global benchmark.
This accomplishment comes just over a year after she earned her first Guinness title in May 2023 for completing a 93-hour, 11-minute cooking marathon, making her Nigeria’s first chef to hold multiple Guinness World Records.
Sharing her achievement on Instagram, Baci described the recognition as a story of “faith, fire, and history,” celebrating both records as a testament to Nigeria’s creativity and culinary excellence.
“Our plaques are finally here! Two records. Two plaques. One story of faith, fire, and history. Twice, God showed up for me. Twice, we made history for Nigeria,” she wrote.
She added that the feat reached over five billion people globally and expressed gratitude to her co-chef Gino for collaborating on the historic attempt.
“I’m a two-time world record holder, someone pinch me,” Baci wrote, quoting Isaiah 61:7: “Instead of shame, you will receive a double portion, and instead of disgrace you will rejoice in your inheritance.”
The jollof rice event drew a crowd of over 20,000 food lovers, celebrities, and influencers. In line with Guinness verification standards, every portion of the massive dish was distributed to guests and charitable organisations.
Baci’s double recognition cements her place as one of Nigeria’s most celebrated chefs, showcasing the nation’s talent on the global culinary stage.
