Nigerian celebrity chef Hilda Baci has embarked on a new Guinness World Record attempt, this time to cook the world’s largest pot of jollof rice.
The celebrated cook, who shot to global fame in 2023 after setting the record for the longest cooking marathon, launched her latest challenge at Eko Hotel, Lagos, before a buzzing crowd of supporters.
Her target: to prepare a pot of jollof rice using 250 bags of rice.
Ahead of the first stir, Baci was seen in a heartfelt moment with her mother, both praying for strength, protection, and endurance. The scene drew emotional cheers from fans, many of whom credited her mother as a source of inspiration throughout her culinary journey.
In a playful post on social media, Baci shared behind-the-scenes details of her preparations. “Yes, I can officially confirm this pot is squeaky clean! I rolled up my sleeves and washed it myself. In just a few hours, this same pot will carry thousands of servings of Nigerian Jollof history in the making,” she wrote.
The record attempt was initially scheduled to take place at Muri Okunola Park but was moved to Eko Hotel due to overwhelming demand. Organizers revealed that more than 20,000 people registered to attend the event, underscoring the scale of excitement around the feat.
As the cooking got underway, fans celebrated not only the possibility of a new Guinness record but also the cultural pride attached to Nigeria’s iconic jollof rice.
