Former France international Thierry Henry has sounded a note of caution to Arsenal supporters, stressing that Manchester City remain a formidable threat in the Premier League title race.
City significantly reduced the gap on the league leaders just before the November international window. Pep Guardiola’s side capitalised on Arsenal’s 2-2 stalemate with Sunderland, delivering an emphatic 3-0 victory over Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium. That result cut the distance between the champions and Mikel Arteta’s team to just four points after 11 rounds of matches.
Henry expressed concern that City, with their pedigree and experience, could derail Arsenal’s title aspirations this season. Speaking to reporters, he said: “If you’re an Arsenal fan, that’s exactly the team that you don’t want on your shoulder, because they know how to win.”
He added that City’s resurgence is cause for worry: “It’s not great as an Arsenal man to see them coming back to their level. They look like a team about to go on a run.”
Reflecting on Guardiola’s early-season challenges, Henry observed that the City manager had to adapt to fresh backroom staff and tactical adjustments: “I think Pep had to deal with having two new assistants and a new way of playing.”
Henry explained that Arsenal had hoped to build a more comfortable lead while City adjusted, but acknowledged the inevitability of the challenge: “What you were hoping for while City made that adjustment is that Arsenal could go ahead and take some points, and that’s exactly what happened. But it was always going to be a battle.”
The Gunners now face renewed pressure as Manchester City appear poised for a strong run in the title chase.
