Nigerian doctors have been urged to embrace continuous learning and step out of their comfort zones as the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani, highlights the importance of career development in the medical profession.
Ajani gave the advice on Tuesday in Abuja during a meeting organised by the FCT chapter of the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria.
She encouraged medical practitioners to remain confident, define their career paths clearly, and continuously acquire new skills that would enhance their professional growth and effectiveness in the health sector.
The Permanent Secretary also advised doctors to build strong professional networks, collaborate widely, and connect with individuals who can support their career advancement.
She further emphasised the importance of mentorship, noting that beyond technical expertise, relationships and strategic connections often play a key role in accessing opportunities and achieving career success.
Speaking at the event, the Medical Director of Zankli Hospital and host, Funke Lawson, described the gathering as an opportunity to foster unity, strengthen bonding, and encourage professional interaction among members.
The President of MWAN-FCT, Maureen Umeakuewulu, said the initiative aligns with efforts to promote members’ wellbeing, support professional development, and advance compassionate healthcare delivery.
She added that the association remains committed to improving maternal and child health, reducing maternal mortality, and addressing gender-based violence through sustained advocacy and collaboration across the health sector.
