Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar has made a renewed public appeal for financial assistance, saying she urgently needs funds to undergo surgery for a brain tumour amid worsening personal and medical challenges.
During a recent live broadcast, the actress disclosed that she has been diagnosed with a brain tumour and was recently forced to vacate her residence, leaving her without stable accommodation. She described her current situation as overwhelming, citing mounting medical bills and a lack of support.
Abubakar explained that her difficulties escalated after she spent her savings on her mother’s hernia surgery in October last year, a procedure she said cost N9 million and is yet to be fully settled.
According to the actress, she attempted to use money previously donated for her own medical treatment to pay her rent, but the payment was declined by her landlady, leading to her eviction.
In an emotional plea, Abubakar called on well-meaning Nigerians and prominent individuals for assistance, directly mentioning former Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello, social media activist VeryDarkMan, and Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, as people she hopes can help amplify her call.
She said repeated attempts to reach colleagues and industry figures had been unsuccessful, adding that she would not have gone public if she had any other options.
Responding to claims that she was exaggerating her condition to attract sympathy or funds, Abubakar firmly denied the allegations, insisting her health challenges are genuine and deeply distressing.
She further revealed that she now requires about N25 million to cover surgery, post-operative care, accommodation, medication, and daily living expenses. According to her, she relocated to Abuja to be closer to her medical team at a private hospital, where she has been receiving treatment for about a year.
“This is not easy to talk about, but I have exhausted every private option available to me,” she said, adding that she is also seeking assistance from her state government.
This is not the first time the actress has sought public help. In February 2025, she appealed to the Kogi State government for support without disclosing the nature of her illness. In 2022, Abubakar announced her withdrawal from acting, citing health-related reasons.
Her latest appeal has once again drawn attention to the financial and emotional pressures faced by entertainers dealing with serious health conditions.
