Armed gunmen have reportedly killed several military and police personnel, along with civilians, during a deadly ambush in the Giro Masa community of Shanga Local Government Area, deepening security concerns in Kebbi State.
The attack, which occurred on Tuesday night, is said to have claimed the lives of an unspecified number of soldiers, police officers, and at least two residents of the community.
According to local sources, the assailants had been operating within the area before security forces traced their movement to a construction company yard following intelligence provided by residents.
Troops deployed to secure the location were reportedly ambushed before reaching the site, triggering a violent exchange that left multiple casualties.
During the assault, the attackers also reportedly set two military gun trucks ablaze, intensifying the scale of destruction and panic in the area.
Residents who witnessed the incident described the night as chaotic and terrifying, with heavy gunfire causing widespread fear across the community.
“The gunmen came into our village and were heading toward the construction company yard. We alerted security personnel, but they were ambushed before they could secure the area,” one resident said anonymously.
The full casualty figure remains unclear, as authorities are yet to release an official statement on the incident.
Security agencies have not formally commented on the attack as of press time, while residents remain anxious over possible further violence.
