Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has paid tribute to legendary coaches Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsène Wenger after reaching another milestone in the English Premier League.
The Spaniard became the fastest manager in Premier League history to secure 250 victories, achieving the feat in just 349 games following City’s 1-0 win over Brentford on Sunday. Erling Haaland scored the only goal of the match to seal the record.
Guardiola, who joined City in 2016, surpassed Ferguson and Wenger, who needed 404 and 423 games, respectively, to reach the mark. David Moyes, another member of the elite 250-win club, required 645 matches.
Reflecting on the achievement, Guardiola expressed gratitude to his players and staff while extending an invitation to Ferguson and Wenger for a celebratory dinner.
“We won a lot! Otherwise you cannot take this accolade without winning a lot of games,” Guardiola said. “It’s an honour for me to be alongside Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsène Wenger, so I will invite them to a good dinner. Maybe not in Manchester, maybe somewhere with more sun. No, we’ll do it in Manchester.”
He added: “It’s an honour, a pleasure to be part of Premier League history. I want to say thank you to the club, the organisation, the players and the staff that I had because we did it quicker, faster, better, and really, really pleased. Now, let’s go for 250 more.”
City’s victory lifted them to fifth place on the table, three points behind leaders Arsenal.
