Liverpool great Graeme Souness believes Arsenal still have significant competition in the race for the Premier League title and insists that as many as three other clubs remain capable of derailing their campaign.
The Gunners have pulled into a strong position at the summit of the table, holding a six-point advantage over Chelsea, who sit in second place. Arsenal are also seven points above Manchester City and maintain an 11-point lead over reigning champions Liverpool, putting Mikel Arteta’s men in a commanding early stance.
However, speaking during an interview, Souness stressed that the Premier League’s intensity and unpredictability mean the title race is far from settled. He refused to rule Liverpool out and warned that multiple contenders still have the capacity to challenge Arsenal over the long season.
“Anything can happen in our league,” Souness said during an interview. “I have worked in big leagues abroad, and I tell you, our league is by far the most demanding league anywhere.
“Big clubs don’t get a rest. So it’s still very much on for three or four teams, and I have to include Liverpool, because I know the way the crowd react there. They won’t give up on the team.”
Souness’s remarks add to the growing debate around Arsenal’s title credentials, as they continue their pursuit of a first Premier League trophy in over two decades while facing pressure from established rivals with deep squads and championship pedigree.
With several top clubs still within striking distance, the former Liverpool captain’s comments serve as a reminder that the Premier League title race remains wide open despite Arsenal’s current lead.
