Usman Arabi, Al-Amin Barambu Appointed to Lead New Power and Digital Economy Commissions
Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has appointed Dr Usman Arabi, a senior official of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), as the Chairman of the newly established Gombe State Electricity Regulatory Commission (GOSERC).
Arabi currently serves as General Manager, Public Affairs Department at NERC.
The appointment was approved following the Governor’s assent to the laws establishing two key regulatory bodies, the Gombe State Electricity Regulatory Commission (GOSERC) and the Gombe State Information Technology and Digital Economy Commission (GIDTEC) thereby giving them full legal authority to begin operations.
The decision was communicated in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Njodi.
Alongside Arabi’s appointment, the Governor also named Al-Amin Umar Barambu as Chairman of the Gombe State Information Technology and Digital Economy Commission (GIDTEC).
Driving power reform and digital transformation
Governor Inuwa Yahaya said the appointments form part of his administration’s broader strategy to strengthen regulation, encourage innovation, and accelerate economic transformation across the state.
According to the statement, the establishment of GOSERC aligns with the Governor’s power sector reform agenda, particularly in taking advantage of the opportunities created by the Electricity Act.
The commission is expected to improve electricity regulation, enhance service delivery, attract private sector investment, and expand access to reliable power supply in Gombe State.
Similarly, the creation of GIDTEC underscores the administration’s commitment to positioning Gombe as a technology-driven and digitally competitive state, with emphasis on ICT growth, digital innovation, skills development, e-governance, and youth employment.
Governor charges new chairmen
The Governor expressed confidence in the capacity of both appointees, noting that they bring extensive experience and expertise relevant to the mandates of the new commissions.
He urged them to apply professionalism, integrity, and proven leadership in building strong, responsive, and result-oriented institutions that will deliver measurable benefits to the people of the state.
Both appointments are scheduled to take effect from January 2, 2026.
