With the transition rate standing at 61 per cent of over one million learners, the government has launched a door-to-door campaign to establish why thousands are missing classes.
The majority of affected students are reportedly out of school due to a lack of school fees.
Meanwhile, parents weighed down by the rising cost of living and unemployment are scrambling for bursaries and basic school supplies. On Monday, crowds of hopeful parents thronged Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja’s office, with only a few securing assistance as many left empty-handed.
