The Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa, has initiated talks with the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Muhammad Ali Pate, in Abuja to strengthen collaboration on critical healthcare initiatives. The meeting focused on the formal takeover and operationalization of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Kumo, following a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Gombe State Government and the Federal Government.
Governor Yahaya expressed appreciation for Minister Pate’s leadership and commitment to advancing healthcare across Nigeria. He reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to sustained collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and other stakeholders to strengthen healthcare delivery in Gombe State.
“We inherited a comatose health sector, but we are using the resources available to make a big difference. Health remains a top priority on our development agenda, and we are committed to making lasting investments that impact lives,” the Governor stated.
He described the Federal Ministry of Health as a “shining star” among federal ministries, praising the Minister’s reform-driven leadership. Yahaya also appealed for federal support in upgrading the Snakebite Treatment and Research Hospital in Kaltungo, a legacy facility originally built by missionaries but now constrained by capacity and resources.
He highlighted the high incidence of snakebite-related fatalities in the region and emphasized the urgent need to expand and modernize the hospital to save more lives.
“We assure the Ministry of our full commitment to any collaborative efforts needed to improve this facility,” he added.
In his response, Muhammad Pate welcomed the Governor and commended him for his transformational work in the health sector, particularly in revitalizing primary healthcare and developing critical infrastructure in Gombe State.
