Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has pledged to foster a renewed spirit of cooperation with the Rivers State House of Assembly as part of efforts to recover lost ground and fast-track the state’s social and economic development.
In a statewide broadcast, Governor Fubara described the recently lifted state of emergency as one of the most difficult periods in Rivers’ history, noting that his decision not to contest the presidential proclamation was born out of a deep conviction that “no sacrifice is too great for peace.”
“The President graciously brokered peace during this period, and we all accepted it—though not without hard lessons learned under the emergency rule,” Fubara said.
He stressed that the responsibility now rests with leaders to rise above personal interests and work for the collective good of the state.
The governor expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for what he called a “fatherly intervention” that restored full democratic governance to Rivers State.
He also acknowledged the contributions of his political mentor and predecessor, Nyesom Wike, alongside the Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and other key stakeholders in sustaining peace.
Fubara commended the Speaker and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for their cooperation, assuring that he remains committed to strengthening collaboration for the progress of the state.
Addressing concerns from his supporters, he reassured them that “not everything is irretrievably lost” and that new opportunities lie ahead.
He emphasized that “the costly peace is cheaper than the cheapest war,” urging Rivers people to remain united in building a stronger, more prosperous future.
Reflecting on his administration’s achievements before the emergency rule, Fubara promised to resume funding of ongoing projects to ensure their timely completion.
He reiterated his commitment to inclusive governance, anchored on peace, accountability, and shared progress.
Finally, he thanked the people of Rivers State for their resilience, patience, prayers, and peaceful conduct, pledging never to take their trust for granted.
