The Governor of Yobe state, Mai Mala Buni has approved the immediate release of ₦5.8 billion for the payment of all outstanding gratuities owed to retired public officers.
The approval, described as a landmark move, aims to clear long-standing arrears and bring relief to thousands of retirees who have served the state with dedication and integrity.
According to a statement by the Commissioner for Finance, Mohammed Geidam, the decision reflects the Buni administration’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of civil servants and retirees.
“This significant milestone underscores the administration’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices and meritorious service of Yobe’s public servants,” Geidam stated.
The commissioner further disclosed that Governor Buni has directed that gratuity payments be integrated into the state’s monthly financial schedule, ensuring retirees receive their entitlements alongside regular pension payments.
“This means that, going forward, cleared gratuities will be paid monthly to prevent any future backlog of retirement benefits,” Geidam explained.
Geidam described the ₦5.8 billion approval as a clear demonstration of Governor Buni’s compassionate leadership and his administration’s deep respect for senior citizens who devoted their careers to public service.
“By clearing this substantial backlog and institutionalizing a prompt, monthly payment system, the governor has provided much-needed financial relief and restored dignity to our retirees,” he said.
He added that the Ministry of Finance and the Office of the Head of Service are working closely to ensure transparent and seamless disbursement of funds to all affected beneficiaries.
The statement emphasized that this financial intervention aligns with Governor Buni’s broader economic and social agenda, aimed at promoting fiscal discipline, social justice, and sustainable welfare policies for all citizens.
“This bold financial step reflects the governor’s vision of a responsible, people-centered government that prioritizes the welfare of those who contributed immensely to Yobe’s development,” the statement concluded.
