A recent report by Google reveals that Nigerians are not only embracing artificial intelligence (AI) but are outpacing global averages in the way they use the technology across education, work, and business.
Titled “Our Life with AI: Helpfulness in the Hands of More People”, the study shows a significant rise in AI adoption among adults in Nigeria. Findings reveal that 88% of Nigerian adults have used an AI chatbot, an 18-point jump from 2024 and well above the global average of 62%.
According to Google’s Communications and Public Affairs Manager for West Africa, Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, the results highlight how Nigerians are leveraging AI to create opportunities and drive personal and economic growth.
“The report demonstrates that Nigerians are not just adopting AI tools but using them with purpose.
“From learning new skills to accelerating business ideas, AI is becoming an integral part of everyday life. We remain committed to making sure AI stays helpful, accessible, and empowering for everyone”, she said.
While learning remains the top use of AI globally, the report found that Nigerians are extending its reach. About 93 percent of Nigerian users said they rely on AI to understand complex topics, compared with 74 percent worldwide.
The survey also found that 91 percent of Nigerians use AI to support their work, and 80 percent tap into it to explore new business opportunities or consider career changes, nearly double the global average of 42 percent.
The report further shows strong confidence in AI’s impact on education and information access, with 91 percent of respondents saying the technology improves how people learn and find information. Additionally, 95 percent believe university students and educators are likely to benefit from AI.
