Google is expanding Earth AI, its global geospatial intelligence system built to understand the planet in near real time. Powered by Gemini’s advanced reasoning capabilities, the platform integrates models that forecast floods, cyclones, air quality, droughts, and more, drawing on satellite imagery and decades of Earth observation data.
According to the company, Earth AI has already provided early flood forecasts for over two billion people and issued wildfire alerts to 15 million residents during the 2025 California fires.
A key new feature, Geospatial Reasoning, uses Gemini to connect diverse datasets, such as weather patterns, population density, and infrastructure information, to answer complex environmental and humanitarian questions. The nonprofit GiveDirectly, for example, combines flood maps with demographic data through Earth AI to quickly identify communities most in need of emergency aid.
Google is also integrating Earth AI directly into Google Earth, enabling analysts to ask natural-language questions to instantly detect environmental changes, like shrinking rivers, deforestation, or algae blooms that threaten water supplies.
The feature will roll out to Google Earth Professional users in the U.S. in the coming weeks, with wider access planned for AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.
Meanwhile, Google Cloud is opening Earth AI’s imagery, population, and environmental models to select testers. Organizations can pair this data with their own to improve disaster preparedness, environmental monitoring, and urban planning.
Global partners are already deploying the technology. The World Health Organization (WHO Africa) is using Earth AI to track cholera risks in the Democratic Republic of Congo, while satellite companies Planet and Airbus are leveraging it to monitor deforestation and vegetation growth near power lines.
Google says Earth AI aims to make understanding the physical world as intuitive as reasoning about the digital one, helping communities respond faster to crises, protect lives, and plan for a more resilient future.
