Nigerian singer Euphemia Ekumah, professionally known as GoodGirl LA, has opened up about her experiences with family pressure, education, and following her passion for music.
The Early Momo singer revealed in a recent Hip TV interview that while she does not regret not completing university, she wishes she had pursued her music career earlier. She said that her family had pressured her to write the JAMB exam, which she reluctantly did.
“I have never regretted not completing school. I wish I never went to school. I wish I left home earlier. That’s my only regret. I wish I never wrote JAMB. I wish I started chasing my dreams sooner. But I was 16 and unsure of what to do. By 17 or 18, I got clarity and left home,” GoodGirl LA said.
The singer also disclosed that her father disowned and evicted her after she told him she did not want to continue her education. “When I told my parents I wasn’t interested in school anymore, my dad asked me to leave the house. It was crazy. At one point, he even disowned me,” she added.
GoodGirl LA noted that the family eventually reconciled after she began gaining recognition in the music industry.
Her story highlights the challenges young artists sometimes face in balancing familial expectations with the pursuit of their dreams.
