The Nigeria National League (NNL) has imposed a ₦2.5 million fine on Gombe United after a recent home fixture against Jigawa Golden Stars ended in a chaotic abandonment. The disciplinary measure stems from an incident at the Pantami Stadium where fans invaded the pitch to harass and intimidate match officials in the closing moments of the game.
Consequently, the league governing body has ordered the club to pay the fine by January 9, 2026, or face a mandatory deduction of three points and three goals from their current tally.
Beyond the financial penalty, the NNL ruled that the final minute of the disrupted match must be completed behind closed doors at a neutral venue, specifically the New Jos Stadium in Jos. The ₦2.5 million total includes ₦2 million for fan misconduct and a ₦500,000 logistical subsidy to cover the travel and accommodation expenses for Jigawa Golden Stars. This sanction comes at a critical time for the “Savannah Scorpions,” who currently maintain third place in the league standings with 11 points.
In the midst of these disciplinary challenges, the club has commenced a scheduled 12-day mid-season break. The hiatus began on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, allowing players and technical staff a brief interval after the conclusion of the first stanza. The team expects to return to training on Sunday, January 4, 2026, to begin intensive preparations for the second half of the campaign.
The management of Gombe United now faces the urgent task of settling the outstanding fine while reorganizing the squad for the remaining fixtures. Failure to meet the January deadline could significantly jeopardize their promotion ambitions, as the looming points deduction would see them slip down the competitive NNL table.
