Goalkeeper Francis Uzoho has expressed his profound delight at his return to the Super Eagles squad, marking the end of a long absence from the Nigerian national team setup.
Uzoho was one of the surprise inclusions in Head Coach Eric Chelle’s 28-man squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, which starts on December 21. The Omonia Nicosia shot-stopper last featured for the team in March 2024 during an international friendly against Ghana.
The 27-year-old goalkeeper demonstrated his commitment by being the first player to report to the Super Eagles camp in Cairo, Egypt, arriving in the early hours of Sunday morning (December 14, 2025).
Speaking to the Super Eagles media upon his arrival, Uzoho stated he greatly missed the atmosphere and camaraderie within the team:
“I missed quite a lot. But like I think I missed the boys to be honest. I missed the boys. I missed the vibe in the camp, you know, because we’ve been quite a lot together,” he told the Super Eagles media.
Uzoho, who brings valuable tournament experience (including the 2018 FIFA World Cup and previous AFCONs), will now compete with Stanley Nwabali and Amas Obasogie for the starting spot in goal as the Super Eagles prepare for the tournament.
