Ghana took a major step toward qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a commanding 5–0 win over the Central African Republic on Wednesday.
The result leaves the Black Stars firmly top of Group I, three points clear of Madagascar with just one game left to play.
The match, held at the Stade d’Honneur in Morocco, was one-way traffic from the outset as Ghana outclassed their opponents with slick passing, disciplined structure, and clinical finishing.
Defender Mohammed Salisu opened the scoring in the 20th minute, rising highest to nod home a Mohammed Kudus corner. The West Ham midfielder turned provider again as Ghana continued to dominate possession.
After the break, Thomas Partey doubled the advantage with a cool finish from the edge of the box before Alexander Djiku made it 3–0 moments later with a well-timed header.
Jordan Ayew, continuing his fine form, added the fourth with a trademark low strike, and Kamaldeen Sulemana wrapped up the scoring in the 87th minute with his first senior international goal.
The emphatic win not only strengthens Ghana’s position at the top but also gives them a huge goal-difference cushion, meaning a draw in their final group game would be enough to confirm their return to football’s biggest stage.
Head coach Otto Addo praised his players’ focus and tactical discipline after the match, describing the performance as “a statement of intent.”
The Central African Republic, meanwhile, offered little resistance, struggling to contain Ghana’s relentless attacking play.
The Black Stars, four-time African champions, have now scored 12 goals in their last three qualifiers and look on course to seal a fifth World Cup appearance when they face Comoros in Accra next week.
