A delegation from the German Development Cooperation, implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, visited the headquarters of the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) today as part of their ongoing partnership under the Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP).
According to Ama Umoren, Public Affairs Unit, Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) in a Statement in Abuja, the visit aimed to enhance collaboration between NEMSA and NESP, focusing on renewable energy development, regulatory standards, and capacity building within Nigeria’s electricity sector.
Mr. Milot Karid, leader of the GIZ delegation, expressed his congratulations to NEMSA’s leadership and reiterated the organization’s commitment to maintaining the strong partnership that has flourished between the two institutions.
Mr. Karid highlighted significant achievements resulting from their collaboration, notably the development of the “Guidelines for the Inspection and Certification of Solar Mini-Grids in Nigeria.”
This initiative is a crucial step toward ensuring that solar energy solutions comply with safety and quality standards, thereby bolstering the renewable energy sector in Nigeria. Additionally, targeted capacity-building initiatives for NEMSA personnel aim to enhance the agency’s technical capabilities.
In response, Engr. Olusegun Adesayo, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of NEMSA and Chief Electrical Inspector of the Federation, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to promoting electrical safety, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI). He expressed gratitude to GIZ and the European Union for their unwavering support in strengthening Nigeria’s power sector.
Looking ahead, Engr. Adesayo announced plans for the formal launch of the guidelines and emphasized a deeper collaboration aimed at advancing renewable energy deployment, energy efficiency, and rural electrification across Nigeria.
The Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP) is a technical assistance initiative co-funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. It is executed by GIZ in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Power.
Both organizations reiterated their dedication to promoting sustainable energy solutions, enhancing standards in renewable energy deployment, and facilitating Nigeria’s transition to a safe, efficient, and sustainable electricity sector.
