South Africa’s Garrick Higgo produced a sparkling eight-birdie round of 66 to move one shot clear at the halfway stage of the Sanderson Farms Championship in Jackson, Mississippi.
Higgo, 25, reached 13 under par at the Country Club of Jackson, following up his opening 65 with another low score. He mixed four birdies with two bogeys on the front nine before a flawless inward stretch left him top of the leaderboard.
Overnight co-leader Eric Cole stayed in touch with a 67 and was joined on 12 under by fellow American Taylor Montgomery, whose seven-under 63 was the round of the day. Danny Walker, another first-round co-leader, carded 68 to sit one shot further back.
Higgo is chasing a second PGA Tour title of the season after victory at April’s Corales Puntacana Championship. He said playing alongside world number one Scottie Scheffler at last month’s Procore Championship gave him fresh motivation.
“I learned so much just by watching,” Higgo said. “He’s an inspiration for all of us. He’s set the bar so high. It’s just phenomenal how high his skill level is.”
South Korea’s Tom Kim, who sits 99th in the FedEx Cup standings, climbed into contention with a 66 to reach 10 under. The 22-year-old, a two-time PGA Tour winner, is looking to cement his place inside the top 100 to secure full status for 2026.
The Sanderson Farms Championship is the second stop of the PGA Tour’s Fall Series, where players are competing to retain cards and earn entry to next year’s elite signature events.
